OpenOffice.org Calc, Candlestick chart plotting
Last modified: 2013-09-25 20:41:32 UTC
The candle stick plot is incorrect. The indicators for Opening Value, Closing Value, highest/lowest value, upwards/downwards are incorrect. Please refer to the following value i used to plot the chart: Month/Year 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 January 3.0119 4.7927 4.4046 3.8498 3.5628 3.3568 4.0365 4.8025 4.9866 4.5434 February 2.8823 4.1557 4.2570 3.7368 3.4980 3.3086 4.0981 4.8034 4.9450 4.4507 March 2.8384 4.0651 4.1366 3.6645 3.4515 3.3313 4.1030 4.6592 5.0103 4.4553 April 2.8520 4.0841 4.0662 3.5907 3.3916 3.3677 4.1277 4.5560 4.9182 4.4950 May 2.8658 4.2392 4.0394 3.4426 3.3262 3.4844 4.3911 4.5600 4.8226 4.6091 June 2.8449 4.4068 3.9433 3.6119 3.2413 3.6333 4.4362 4.6155 4.6190 July 2.8382 4.5703 3.9408 3.5668 3.2737 3.7754 4.3187 4.6611 4.5602 August 2.9510 4.6388 4.0299 3.4371 3.4256 3.7167 4.2390 4.6327 4.6216 September 3.3229 4.4040 3.9890 3.3040 3.4590 3.7264 4.2815 4.6451 4.6164 October 3.6876 4.5673 4.0681 3.2397 3.4383 3.7284 4.4490 4.7528 4.5381 November 3.8581 4.4390 3.9246 3.2496 3.3761 3.8071 4.4456 4.9379 4.4534 December 4.2147 4.4689 3.8419 3.4136 3.3865 3.8737 4.6729 5.0945 4.4811
I can't reproduce it. Pls explain incorrect and attach the doc. thx

@ybdsg: Pls attach your spreadsheet with chart!

I can confirm unexpected chart view with "2.0.3RC5 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9036)]" and also "1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)]". To be sure that no import effects disturb my investigations, I also tested with a new spreadsheet using values from 'Candlestick-Ooo.ods': same result. Unfortunately in HELP I can't find any information how OOo stock chart (= candle stick chart) should work, and I do not understand hints on <http://api.openoffice.org/docs/common/ref/com/sun/star/chart/StockDiagram.html> My knowledge concerning stock charts, which seems to meet with the way EXCEL will show them, is: 1. We have some values for different times (or dates) ('Candlestick-Ooo.ods': B2:B13) 2. Sort order of those values is "time" 3. Stock chart for those values shows 3.1. Range Min ... Max (2,8382 ... 4,2147) as a vertical line 3.2. Range between opening course and closing course as a rectangle 3.2.0 Opening course is first value (B2) 3.2.1 Closing course is last value (B13) 3.2.2. Rectangle black, if opening course > closing course 3.2.3. Rectangle white, if opening course < closing course 3.1. is as expected 3.2. is as expected 3.2.0 "Opening course" works as expected 3.2.1 "Closing course" does NOT work as expected, it seems, that OOo always takes value No. 4 (here: B5) as closing value - I can't understand that 3.2.2 "Rectangle black" works as expected (bot see 3.2.1) 3.2.3 "3.2.3. Rectangle white" works as expected (bot see 3.2.1) Currently, this definitively is a EXCEL import problem, because OOo does not show a chart as EXCEL does, so I change Subcomponent. I believe, this is a general problem, because I can not find any reason why Closing value always should be the forth one in the table, but that should be decided by someone with more chart design knowledge.
I wasn't aware yet, that it is possible to have more than four values in a candlestick chart in MS Excel. OOo Chart expects the values in a fixed order: Open Low High Close. Additional values are ignoed. See service description: http://api.openoffice.org/docs/common/ref/com/sun/star/chart/StockDiagram.html To allow differently structured data is an enhancement. Of course, this enhancement makes much sense.
->ybdsg: How did you create the stock-chart in Excel? When I select the data in the Excel and try to create a stock chart from this, I get an error saying the data must have the layout "Open, High, Low, Close" and refuses to insert the new stock-chart. Even, if I don't select the first row (containing the years), which is interpreted as numbers (stock courses) per default.
Hi bm, I actually safed the original Ooo file into Excel file. The chart was automatically ploted in Excel. I also managed to repeat your error in Excel when I attempt to plot the chart fresh from the data series.
