Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 67090
txt export ignores frame contents
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:22:41 UTC
In order to prepare a payroll file for transmission to a bank for processing, it must be converted from a .doc format into a .txt format. When using the latest two versions (2.0.2 and 2.0.3) and selecting "Save As" from the "File" menu and specifying a text file (.txt) the resulting file is totally blank. I haven't tested all of the possible options there, but converting to an .rtf format works correctly. I can also Save As an .odt format file, but converting from the .odt formatted file to a .txt file still results in a blank file. I have yet to try this on a Linux box, but I will and post more on that aspect.
Tested with 2.0.3 (680m173 build 9040), WinXP. Works for me. ->'bobsblack', please attach a test document which shows this problem.
As the file in question involves banking records, I was reluctant to include it in the original post. However, I went through the file and replaced charactors and numbers so that the information is unrecognizable, but the structure of the file is unchanged. In editing the contents of the file, I also noticed that the file is made up of multiple frames. This file is generated out of Crystal Reports as a Word formatted file from an Oracle database. Each record presented is placed on a new line in its own frame. A bug in Crystal prevents us from creating a text file directly as it puts an extra space at the beginning of each line. The fixed format that the bank requires precludes using this as an option. MS Word converts the text frames into the desired lines of text, but it is almost like OOo Writer is treating each frame as a graphic and ignoring them in the conversion to a strictly text format.

The attached document consists of frames; no floating text. The txt export completely ignores frame contents. These should be exported in the position where the frame is anchored to, IMO (page anchored frames maybe in the beginning or end of the document).
