Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 67446
File Type: OpenOffice.org 1.0 Document vs OpenDocument
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:54 UTC
This might has been duplicated. If so, please forgive me. Please assume that a user in the following user scenario has been convinced of the importance, within her organization, of migration to OpenOffice.org. Observation of her behavior shows: She... 1. Opens a Microsoft Office Word document file with OpenOffice.org. 2. Edits it. 3. Chooses "OpenOffice.org 1.0 Text Document (.sxw)" as a file type to save it in the OpenOffice.org file format and then gets a warning dialog, but achieves her attempt by clicking 'Yes' button in the dialog. 4. Opens the file a few hours later and modifies it. 5. Tries to save it and gets the waring dialog again, but clicks 'Yes' again. According to her answer, she understands necessity of choosing a file type OpenOffice.org in order to convert her document file from Microsoft to OpenOffice.org. She tries to look for an entry including a text OpenOffice.org and successfully finds "OpenOffice.org 1.0 Text Document (.sxw)." What is wrong with the story? Many users tend to stick on a name of application but that of file format because of their experiences. OpenOffice.org 2.0 offers an entry "OpenDocument Text (.odt)" in the file type list, but the entry does not look like a file format for the application OpenOffice.org. What could we do to improve users' satisfaction? Its answer could be left to the user experience team.
TM->requirements: Please have a look, thanks !
