Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 68074
WW8: Under-Line of vertical mode exported on wrong side on Word's
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:57 UTC
Japanese vertical-mode document, under-line is displayed on **right** side. I made text document for vertical-mode with under-line and export to word-doc. There is **left** side of character. scenario: 1.File-New-TextDocument. 2.Input some message as 'abcdef'. 3.Set underline the message. 4.Format-Page. 5.Set Text direction 'Right-to-Left(vertical)' and click OK. underline is right-side of message(it is correct) 6.File-Save 7.Select file-type 'Microsoft Word97/2000/XP(doc)' and click Save. 8.Open the doc file by Microsoft Word2003 Underline is left-side of message(it is not correct)

confirming the effect (i.e. underline on the right hand side in OOo (even when opening the *.doc), on the left hand side in WordViewer 2003 (running under wine) For a "western" user, left may be the correct one (since there the underline is "under" the western characters... In my (german) version of WordViewer, the japanese letters are turned, not as in your screenshot (so as if you would have written left to right and then turned the sheet of paper - but a picture says more than thousand words, see screenshot. (in OOo, it looks like in the screenshot you provided)
Created attachment 38206 [details] letters turned in word viwere - position of underline seems correct (although on the left)

Hi, Sorry for the double attachements. You can see, that on my system (without wine) only the underline is on the wrong side, the letters are ok. BTW. I find no way to set the unline in Word2000 upper the letters .... Regards Marko
I cannot reproduce the problem from the scratch with OO 2.0.3 and Word 2003. When I export the attached odt to WOrd2003 format and open it in Word, it looks as desired/expected. But when I open the attached Word doc I cn see the poblem... so what is the difference in our ways of exporting the odt to doc?

thank you for your comment > cloph, mru please try this scenario. I can change the side of line correctly. (...continued) 9.re-open the doc file(3_192_catch.doc) by OOo. underline is right-side of message(it is correct). 10.save new odt file(3_192_catch2.odt). 11.close OOo. 12.re-open odt file(3_192_catch2.odt). underline is right-side of message(it is correct). 13.save this document to doc file(see sample of 3_192_catch2.doc) 14.Open the doc file(3_192_catch2.doc) by Microsoft Word2003 Underline is right-side of message(it is correct) If I make new document with sideline in vertical-mode and save doc-file, it is left-side of word2003-ja(it is not correct). If I re-open the document with sideline in vertical-mode and save doc-file, it is right-side of word2003-ja(it is correct).
Information 1: This phenomenon can be seen with normal texts as well as tables and text frames of Writer. Information 2: The following two Word files seem to differ each other: a) Type some texts in vertical writing and save the document into Word format. b) Save the same document into ODF format, close it, open the ODF file, and then save it into Word format.
Yes, I can now see the problem - it only happens, when a document is not saved to odt before exporting. MRU->HBRINKM: open attached odt and also a new empty document. Set vertical text direction in page format of empty document. Copy the content from the odt and paste into the new one and save it in WW8 format and open in MS Word -> the underline is now on the wrong side of text.
Added "WW8" keyword to summary.
