Open a new presentation. Switch on "Styles and Formatting"-window, dock it to
the right side.

Now open the "3D-Effects"-window. (You can do it this way: Draw a rectangle,
convert it in 3D, in the context menu mark "3D-Effect".) Drag it to the left
border and dock it there. The "Styles and Formatting"-window and the task pane
disappear, but they remain checked in the toolbar and the view > toolbars menu
respectively.

You are right. All is OK now. Sometimes a reboot will solve problems ;)
