Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6865
Rich text format
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
It does not translate the documents properly. Instead of a sentence going from left to right. It goes from top to bottom. Like this you know. But if i open it up in word i save it as a .doc and everything is fine when i open it up then in openoffice. The .rtf file format is not able to be changed in a program that the users here are using. Is there a setting or something to change to allow better compatiblity.
Theres no extra option to make rtf import work differently, please attach an example trouble causing rtf document to this issue so we can have an example of what is going wrong. There is a "Create new attachment" option on the top of this issue (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=6865) which you can use to do that.

Created attachment 2856 [details] RTF file that also displays very differently in Word and Open Office.
This file is displayed the same way in MS Wordpad as in Open Office. MS Word displays it differently--I think MS Word displays it as the author intended it to be displayed. I tested some other simple RTF files, one with a table and one with several fields on the same line, both created in MS Word. Both of them were read and displayed correctly by OpenOffice. I don't know RTF and can't identify the exact difference between the files. However, the sample file in which the failure occurs seems to define each item on the page in its own text box, whereas the other files I've created put the text in the same box. I created another file with text boxes, attached as foo3.rtf. In Word, this file reads as "Fubar 1" and "Fubar 2", not quite vertically aligned, with Fubar 1 nearer the left margin and Fubar 2 nearer the right. In OpenOffice, this file displays as follows: shapeType75fFlipH0fFlipV0fPseudoInline1fLayoutInCell1fLockPosition1 fLockRotation1a127f584c21463c05edb4cff3dc8781b010009000003740000000 2001c00000000000400000003010800050000000b0200000000050000000c027200 c301040000002e0118001c000000fb02ceff0000000000009001000000000440001 254696d6573204e657720526f6d616e000000000000000000000000000000000004 0000002d0100000400000002010100050000000902000000020d000000320a2d000 0000100040000000000c201710020c016001c000000fb021400090000000000bc02 000000000102022253797374656d0000000000001800000074c8110001000000e40 4000000000000040000002d010100030000000000 I inserted carriage returns for readability. The paragraph appears highlighted (as if it were a field) and when the cursor is on the field, the popup box reads SHAPE \*MERGEFORMAT
The RTF filter in OOo does not import drawing objects in RTF files from Word. Wesley, your attached file ( Sample report.RTF ) has a lot of drawing objects. Please see issue 3790 *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3790 ***
