Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69160
Enable link update for selected links
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:35 UTC
I use links a lot, for both drawing and spreadsheets. When I want to update a link, I must open the Edit > Links dialog, find the file, and then click the "update" button. That's a lot of steps. My suggestion is that when one or more linked objects are selected, a new menu item "Edit > Update links" is enabled. Select this menu item and presto! the linked data is updated and no more searching through the Links dialog. A nice alternative would be to add "update links" to the right-click menu for all linked objects.
SBA: There is a menu entry Tools - Update - Links. Does this do the trick for you? Or do you want to update a SELECTION of links only? Please comment.
Hmm, I don't have that option in my Tools menu. Regardless, if it updates all links then my answer is no. As an example, one of my spreadsheets has 93 links to other spreadsheets. The reason I want to update just one link is because updating them all takes quite a long time, and I know that only one (or just a few) of my source spreadsheets have changed. (And if it's slow om my system, a decent desktop system, then laptops will likely be slower!) Now that I think about it, an even better option would update only the links for files that were modified since the last update (like "make").
SBA: Thank you for the explanation. Adjusting summary accordingly and confirming. Note: An "Update All" would indeed take time if "many links are not accessible" because the internet connection is not there (Laptop, unconnected) while CERTAIN files are on the same drive, as described. Reassigned to requirements.
