Description jaeger5432 2006-09-01 21:44:25 UTC
A slide contains a text box. I have customized the toolbar display to show the
following toolbars, all in "Icons Only" mode: Standard, Presentation, Zoom, and
either Text Formatting (when a textbox is selected) or Line & Filling (any other
time). (It'd be nice, incidentally, if they could both be visible at the same
time.) "Drawing" is also active, but at the bottom.

Problem: "Text Formatting" and "Line & Filling" do not play nicely with other
toolbars (tested on Zoom, Presentation and Standard). Specifically, a change in
which one is visible (for instance, selecting a text box's contents, and then
clicking to select the edge of the box to give it a border) causes the toolbars
to jump around unexpectedly. "TF" and "L&F" act as though they both want to be
the only thing on that line; if something else is placed beside them, they will
either bump the other toolbar to the next line, or move down to the next line
themselves. These seem to be the only two that behave this way, although I
haven't tested every combination.

This is a problem because neither one of them is really big enough to fill the
width of the toolbar area, while "Zoom" (for instance) fits nicely on the same
line. This problem was also present in 2.0.2, and was actually the reason I
upgraded to 2.0.3, hoping it'd been fixed.

Reproducible. A workaround for me was to get into text edit mode (TF bar
visible), drag the zoom toolbar a little bit to the right, move the TF bar up one
line (into the same line as zoom toolbar) and there you go. This should be what
you wanted. In my opinion the problems lies in the fact that the TF bar has some
more icons when Asian languages and CTL is enabled. If you do so you'll see that
the toolbar gets much broader.
@cd: is there anything that could be done here?

That's a nicer workaround for sure; I'd been leaving the zoom toolbar at the
bottom (same line as drawing toolbar), but I tend to look for it at the top
thanks to the defaults of a certain commercial product.

I'm not sure this is connected to the Asian language/CTL settings -- I just
checked and neither one of those is enabled. When I did enable them, the
formatting toolbar added a couple of icons, but there should not have been
overlap with the Zoom toolbar (pulled all the way to the right edge of the
screen). Perhaps the toolbars are assuming a preset maximum screen width? I've
got 1280 x 1024.

cd: I have to look at this issue more closely (that's why I accept it). I could
be that this is not a defect, but works as designed, although I have to admit
from a user point of view it looks like a defect.
