Description newsgr1 2006-09-07 19:47:39 UTC
I created a .odg with 2.0.3en and placed text frames containing 'Nimbus Sans L'
font text on a Mandrake 9.X box.

When sending this .odg file over to a FC4 box and opening the file there with an
OO 2.0.3de the document does not look the same.

Not only the screen rendering is affected but also they print and pdf convert
differently. The height value of the textbox contains a differnt value on
inspection, other values seem to be identical.

It can be demonstrated with different fonts.

I would have expect the .odg document looking and printing identical when opened
in OO, especially in the same versions and the same platform.

See also example .odg and screenshots.

Are both used OOo builds directly from the official OO website or are they from
some other distributors? The screenshots are in different zoom stages so it is a
little bit difficult to see the real difference. Could you please attach the
exported pdf files from both machines? Thanks.

Both installs came via openoffice.org provided rpms.

Could you attach the original file you used for making the screenshots in the
example.odg? Thanks.

The linespacing seems to be different. I have the same effect here when using FC
and Suse.
Reassigned. @hdu: any idea what this might be? Thanks for having a look.

The "NimbusSansL Regular" font is available on both systems, but they have
quite different metrics though both claim to be same version (1.06). Here is
the relevant difference between the two fonts:

- /FontBBox [-174 -285 1028 953 ]readonly def
+ /FontBBox {-174 -285 1022 1196 }readonly def
...
- /Notice (Copyright \050URW\051++,Copyright 1999 by \050URW\051++ Design &
Development; Cyrillic glyphs added by Valek Filippov \050C\051 2001-2002)
readonly def

Development; Cyrillic glyphs added by Valek Filippov \050C\051 2001-2004)
readonly def

=> Somebody messed with the ascent of the font (when adding Cyrillic glyphs?)

Why was this marked RESOLVED/INVALID? From the comments, it seems to be neither.
I can confirm this same annoying issue on OOo 2.3.1 on Windows XP and OOo 2.3.0
on Redhat Enterprise Linux. The line spacing in an Impress document created on
Linux is much tighter when it's displayed on my Windows laptop.

the short version of my techno-babble above is: even fonts with the same name can have different
metrics
