Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69447
RTF: after save in OO the picture/image is missing in OO and Word
Last modified: 2006-09-13 11:29:26 UTC
I tried to hunt this from other issues in database. I checked issues 16781, 3790, 12713, 23842, 10084, 53816, 10084, 20894, 34927 and 43833 after database queries. Issue 53816 seemed to be closest but it is not. So, it is a new issue. After saving in OpenOffice 2.0.3 as RTF-format the picture/image is missing both in OO and Word. The problem was to repeat this bug. I could repeat it two times and managed to get some screenshots. Since it is hard to repeate, I consider it to be P4. I presume that a normal user does not encounter this problem very often then. However there are attached files which have the pictures missing. Someone could check those files. That was introduction. The precise test case is next. Simple picture in Word 2002 and in OpenOffice 2.0.3 1. create picture in other program, copy picture to clipboard 2. open OpenOffice 2.0.3 3. create new text document 4. add some enters to the document, and some sample text 5. paste picture to one enter line 6. move picture the right, very close to the right edge of the page 7. paste picture into to the middle of text 8. move picture to the right, very close to the right edge of the page, keep it still in the middle of text 9. save this document in RTF format (check TEST__1__phase_1.pdf) (check TEST__2__PHASE_1.pdf) (TEST__2__PHASE_1.PNG) (TEST__2__PHASE_1.rtf) 10. close document 11. Now comes the tricky part, since this seems to be somewhat randomized feature 12. I have repeated this few times, and as proof I have added screenshots and PDF exports 14. To convince you I have added material from both original TEST 1 and repeat TEST 2 15. NOT SO NICE: SOMETIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS ONE PICTURE IS DISAPPEARED OR BOTH PICTURES ARE DISAPPEARED 16. This was hard to repeate third time - I tried some 20 times to get results from repeat tests 17. I tried to isolate the steps needed more specificly - this seems to be quite random though 18. BTW: this is testers nightmare, you have proofs from two testcases, but the repetition is very hard 19. I opened the RTF-files first in Word 2002 (10.6802.6735) SP 3 20. YES, YES and YES: I speficly DID NOT save them again in Word 2002 (open file TEST__1__phase_2.rtf) (TEST__1__phase_3.PNG is screenshot from Word 2002 ) (TEST__1__phase_4.PNG is screenshot from Word 2002) (TEST__2__PHASE_2.PNG is screenshot from Word 2002) (TEST__2__PHASE_2.rtf is 22. Close Word 2002, don´t save anything 21. to validate this I opened in OpenOffice 2.0.3 (open file TEST__1__phase_2.rtf) (TEST__1__phase_5.pdf) (TEST__1__phase_6.PNG) (TEST__2__PHASE_3.pdf) (TEST__2__PHASE_3.PNG) 22. and there it is: pictures are disappeared also in OpenOffice 2.0.3 23. Both programs indicated that pictures were not seen for some reason 24. Well, anyway, THIS IS DUE TO OpenOffice 2.0.3 (cannot blame MS this time) 25: Very very hard to repeat - UNREPEATABLE

mru YES - I try to see your point. Please be patient and try to answer this. I made some black-box testing and so I don´t know the internals of OO. 60831 is interesting though. I have commented that also as you propably have seen. 60831 was IMPORT RTF - Change - Save RTF - OPEN in different program. I have isolated that chain in other issues: 49087 especially. The chain I have in mind here is following: - Open OO - Copy picture from other program - paste picture in OO - Save RTF (Export) - OPEN in different program. Is export and import handled in the same module ? If they are handled in the same module I accept your judgement. To my mind you take care that OO will export RTF by standards. Import of corrupted RTFs is another issue propably. Anyway. YES - I try to see your point. Please be patient and try to answer this. Best Regards, tmjura
As I stated in a comment in issue 60831: The problem is even more significant. Also many embedded graphics will be lost on export. See attached sample odt. Thus it is the same as this issue.
