Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 70153
Print only selected sheets should be ON by default
Last modified: 2007-03-24 13:59:30 UTC
This is under Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org Calc - Print. The "Print only selected sheets" should be chedcked on by default, because of behavior-compatibility with MS Excel. Imagine a first-time OOo Calc user, who opens an Excel file, goes to a Sheet he wants to print, clicks the Print button on on the toolbar, and then he finds 100 uneeded papers on the printer, because Calc printed all sheets. (beacuse the "Print only selected sheets" is off by default). After such a bad surprise, user may decide to uninstall OOo - he don't want to meet such a bad surprises anymore. I am not sure if this setting is the same in 2.0.4 (I could install 2.0.4, but Windows could remember settings of 2.0.2).
Well, I understand this request leads to a "philosophical question" (which setting is better for most users in fact), or even flame-war, and could be also a subject of online-voting. Personally, I don't like programs that mimic MS products too closely. I like programs, that behave differently AND better that MS products. But (in my opinion): this "Print all sheets" default behavior is different and worse.
I faced a similar problem. I don't consider this a important(P3)issue,but, i agree with "bukobuko".This characteristic affects amateur users. I checked the "Print only Selected sheets" checkbox in tools->Options->OpenOffice.org Calc These settings were saved by windows and it worked fine from the next print attempt.
