Description artur 2006-10-22 18:49:36 UTC
It is impossible to append a logo or other elements when exporting to pdf.

Purpose: when writing, people will have preprinted stationary. When exporting to
pdf it would be of grat use to be able to have a dialog where the user could
pick a "sationary layout" (png, jpg) on which the exported text would be overlayed.

This wcould be aplicable not only to header/footer but to the whole page.

Sounds more like you want a backdrop picture in your document. You can achieve
that in the page properties (format->page->background).

Pushing this to the requirements list for consideration.

humm,
if you put a backdrop image in the document it will stay confined to document
margins. What i'm talking about is two things:
1. Placing logos, etc.. outside document margins; and
2. Allowing the placing of those elements automatically on pdf (defining a
"stationary") - not having it on the writer document (because it prints on pre
printed stationary, and placing it automatically when exporting to pdf.

the way you suggest involves copying the writer document to a new template with
the backdrop image and exporting to pdf; and it's still confined to the
document's defined margins.

does this make any sense?

FYI: You can place objects anywhere on the page, they are not confined to the
flowtext margin. Just anchor them to the page.

Please consider this: you want an image, the next person wants a transparent
text over every page (e.g. saying "Draft"). Basically there is no end to the
ways one could create such a "watermark" like feature. However how would the UI
look like for something like that ? In the applications we already have the UI
to design such "watermarks" as part of the document.

On the other as you say there may be uses for a limited version of this
"watermarking" like you describe. Let's see whether people vote for this.
