Description diman 2006-10-29 17:45:37 UTC
Calc refuses to open xls file, entrusting it to Writer/Web.
Opened file is scrolled very slowly at P4 2.8 GHz, 512 Mb, WinXP SP2.
I assumed it to be xml.
But renaming file to *.XML does not help.
Excel open it fine.

Please do this: Start OpenOffice.org and then File - Open. Choose the document
and then choose the file typ "HTML Document (OpenOffice.org Calc)
(*.html;*.htm)". You find this in the section, which begins with "OpenOffice.org
Spreadsheet".

Does it open correct?
Comment 3 diman 2006-10-30 16:26:08 UTC
Yes it does. Thank you.
But is it bug that calc doesn't open it automaticly or is't normal?
Anyway such things are confusing especially for beginers.
Comment 4 diman 2006-10-30 17:13:27 UTC
Some more note. It works but but all formating is lost.
Comment 5 diman 2006-10-30 17:44:49 UTC
By the way i used "HTML Document (STAROFFICE Calc)" because there is no "HTML
Document (OpenOffice.org Calc)" in OOo 2.0.
Comment 6 Regina Henschel 2006-10-30 20:13:56 UTC
You can also use the filter "Web Page Query", which seems to work a little bit
better. But formatting is not kept too. I adjust the summary to reflect the
remaining problem.

You should use a newer version, actual 2.0.4.

If you need the formatting, you can open the file in writer, copy the table and
paste it into the spreadsheet as "Formatted text (RTF)". Background color is
lost in import to writer, but font style bold is kept.

Hi,

the problem with the lost formatting is caused by a not implemented cascadibg
Stylewsheet interpreter for the HTML filter. Therefore this Issue is an Feature
request and is handled by the requirements team.

I just wanted to add that this issue will impact many big companies.
This HTML-XLS format is used by many critical software for companies
like "wmware", "Cognos"...
