Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 71500
Doing a spell check while Orca is running causes OOo to crash
Last modified: 2007-01-18 09:16:49 UTC
On Ubuntu Edgy with OOo 2.0.4-0ubuntu2 from Oct 16 (I wish I could more easily cut/paste this information from the 'about' dialog), oowriter crashes if I do a spell check while Orca is running. The Orca version I'm using is from GNOME CVS HEAD, but I believe the same crash will happen when running the Orca that is installed by default with Ubuntu Edgy. I marked this as a P2 since it "crashes or freezes during normal operations of the application."
ES->OBR: can you reproduce it? I can't. I have no Ubuntu and no info on where to find the latest Orca.
.
I have tried to reproduce this on Linux PPC with OOo 2.0.4-0ubuntu2 as well as with OOo m188 (which is a milestone on the way to 2.1), but with the Orca version shipped with Ubuntu Edgy => no crash. Here is what I did: open OOo writer, insert a dummy text by typing D T F3, switch to terminal and launch Orca, switch back to OOo and press F7 to start spell checking, confirm "continue at the beginning" and "spell checking completed" message boxes => done.
Thanks for looking at this. I can still make OOo reliably crash with Orca V1.0.0. Here's a discrete set of steps: 1) Launch oowriter and Orca. 2) Type "deez weel mayke ooo crashola" in a new document 3) Press F7. OOo crashes every time for me. BTW, the official releases of Orca can be found here: ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/orca More information on Orca can be found at http://live.gnome.org/Orca
OBR->MT: as you plan to provide an image for Ubuntu Edgy Eft, can you please install a recent version of ORCA in it and check whether you can reproduce this crash ?
I downloaded OOo v2.1 (32bit Linux version) from the openoffice.org website and installed it. With this version, I cannot reproduce the problem. I tried to reproduce as follows: 1) Launched /opt/openoffice.org2.1/program/swriter and Orca (from CVS HEAD). 2) Typed "deez weel mayke ooo crashola" in a new document 3) Pressed F7. The spell check dialog comes up nicely.
Will, can you close this as FIXED please? I don't have permission to do this. Thanks.
Closing (if I may). Thanks so much for fixing this, OOo team!
close.
