Start with a 2 column table. If I "Select" text in the 2nd column (the
right-hand one), starting from the right-hand end of the text and moving left,
if I accidentally go too far, I wind up selecting the data in the left-hand
column as well. If I want to move the cursor back to the right-hand column, it
doesn't work, and I am forced to unselect and start from scratch.
Is this a defect? Expected?

This may only be a problem if the text in the right-hand column is more than one
line long.

It is a kind of "design limitation". Tables in Writer have not been designed to
be capable of selecting "text only" across more than one cell. Already tracked
in issue 45348.
