Description fhimpe 2002-08-27 15:01:01 UTC
It would be convenient to have a tool that can copy and paste the formatting. So
instead of copying for example a piece of text or a cell, only the formatting of
that piece of text or that cell is copied, and can then be applied to another
text or cell. I think that a similar feature in MS Office is called "Format
Painter".

I totally agree. It exists partly in the spreadsheet component but
this is hardly user friendly, you cannot make a button for it and it
is non existing in the word processor.

Reassigned to Bettina.

This is something many users (like me) are used from WINDOWS office
software. Quite often you find out that you want to take the
formatting (especially TABs) of another paragraph for your actual
paragraph.

We already have a similar fine function for spreadsheets. There for
"special paste" I can disable all checkboxes except "formatting", and
then only the formatting will be copied from the source-cell to the
selectd cells. Something similar would be fine for the word processor.

So I chaneg
status:        --> New
component: ui --> writer (because I think that's most important
for word processor and we have it for spreadsheets
priority:      3 --> 4

Sounds similar to Issue 7724

In MS Word, there's a Copy/Paste Format feature accessed by keystrokes
Control+Shift+C/Control+Shift+V. As someone who worked for years as a
MS Word specialist, I can tell you that this is a 'must-have' feature.

As always, please try to use the same keystrokes as Word.

This is a must have feature!

I know many people who are using ms office instead of openoffice because the
format painter is not supported.

Once you know the format painter, you won't live without them...

It should not be a big issue to implement this feature.

I quote armin71:

"

Some people need this issue.

I think this issue can be closed now, in OOo 1.9.62 Writer and Calc there is now
a "Format Paintbrush".
Comment 11 vdvo 2005-12-29 02:01:53 UTC
Indeed, the format paintbrush is present in OOo 2.0. FIXED?

A "tool" exists already in current OOo (i.e. the formatting painter).

For specifically copy-pasting styles, there is issue 70383.

Since this issue is a bit of both, I'm marking this fixed and depending that
other issue.
