Description michael_stringer 2006-12-26 12:23:20 UTC
Currently users cannot copy elements from master templates in Impress. This
makes it difficult to replicate formatting/text between two master templates.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Create a new Impress presentation.
2) Go to View->Master->Slide Master.
3) Create a new master template (either right-click on the slide sidebar &
select 'new master' or go to Insert->New Slide).
4) Select anything on the page and try to copy it.

This will result in an information dialog appearing with the message: "This
function cannot be run with the selected objects."

This problem has been encountered in OOo 2.0.3 on Gentoo Linux (32 bit running
on amd64) and OOo 2.1.0 on Windows 2000.

Reassigned.

This is not a bug but a feature.
It is not possible to copy the Title or the Outline text objects and that's
correct. It's not allowed to have several of this objects on the slide master.

But nevertheless this is a good idea.
It should be possible to duplicate a master slide. You need such a feature to
create several master slides which are similar but not exactly the same for one
document.

I change the title.

While copying entire master slides would be useful, you currently cannot copy
anything from from a master slide.

This means that if you have formatted a title or bullet and want to replicate it
on another existing master you would have to do it manually.

set target from 2.x to 3.x according to
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Target_3x

For a simple presentation that has a title slide different from the rest, a
second master slide ist required. That is probably a use case appearing fro
most(!) of the users of Impress.
The lack, therefore, of a function to at least make a copy of a master slide is
essential -- especially in the light that the whole master slide concept in
Impress is -- compared to all the excellent template mechanism in Writer -- is
really very hard to use and practically a show-stopper (unless one is willing to
learn about all current inconsistencies and their workarounds).
What I want to suggest is to move the target to 3.0 for making a simple "copy
master slide" button available; as a workaround until the master slide concept
gets fundementally fixed.
Thank you, digisus

This is duplicate to issue 55634 and to issue 70587. I took issue 70587 because
it has already status "new" and has got more votes than issue 55634.

Please move your votes.
