Description drbickham 2007-01-12 13:07:31 UTC
When the date format in the Footer of Impress 2.0.4 is changed from 12/01/07 to
12 January 2007 (English UK - same for English US - haven't checked others) it
shows the correct format for the duration of the session. But after saving as
.odp file and reloading the format reverts to 12/01/07.

Bug successfully replicated on:
Ubuntu 6.10 edgy Eft
`uname -a` --> Linux whitewizard 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP i686 GNU/Linux
OpenOffice 2.0.4, Ubuntu's official builds
Gnome 2.16.1

Bug replicated via:
1- Fire up OpenOffice Presentation.
2- When the Presentation Wizard appears, simply press 'Create'. (Empty Presentation)
3- Choose the 'Title Slide" layout from the layouts menue.
4- Enter arbitrary text in both Title and Body sections of the slide.
5- Save the file. (Ctrl + S)
6- Select "Insert|Date and Time"
7- In the appearing 'Header and Footer' window, change the radio selection from
'Fixed' to 'Variable' to enable the drop down lists.
8- Click 'Apply'.
9- (Optional) Close and reopen the file to ensure the date has indeed been
inserted. (No need to close and restart Oo)
10- Again select "Insert|Date and Time"
11- In the appearing 'Header and Footer" window, change the format of the date
to any other format.
12- Make sure the change has taken effect, then save (Ctrl + S).
13- Close and reopen the file (no need to restart Oo) and you will see that the
date format has defaulted back.

Bug also occurs for the following languages:

- Hebrew
- Korean (RoK)
- English (Canada)
- French (Canada)
- Arabic (Saudi Arabia)
- Chinese (simplified)
- Danish
- French (France)
- Farsi
- Hindi
- Italian (Italy)
- Spanish (Spain)
- Portuguese (Portugal)
- Russian

Clearly, I have not tried all languages.

Interesting Note:
Bug does _NOT_ occur if date and time are inserted via
"Insert|Fields>Date(variable)"

Steps taken were:
*- Follow steps 1 thru 5 as mentioned previously.
1- Select "Insert|Fields>Date(variable)"
2- Save (Ctrl + S)
3- (Optional) close and reopen the document to verify the date has indeed been
inserted. Take note of the default format used.
4- On the slide itself in the middle window, left click on the inserted date.
(The rectangle containing the Date is not selected, in addition to the Date
which is now a dark shade of gray)
5- Double click on the date again
(The date now turns into a dark shade of green)
6- Right click on the Date text and from the appearing menu choose some other
Date format (i.e. try the very last one)
7- Save the document (Ctrl + S)
8- Close and reopen the document - "File|Close" / "File|Open" (No need to
restart Oo)
9- Observe that the date has remained as previously modified. It has not
defaulted back.

Additional Considerations:
I suppose the steps mentioned immediately above can serve as a temporary
workaround to this issue. The downside to this approach is that it does not
allow for selecting another language of choice. In my case I am restricted to
English (Canada).
