too see where I could have used it; oh wait, I'll file a new Chart issue as well (11.48 KB, application/octet-stream)

Description lars 2002-08-31 14:59:30 UTC
if A1 contains X and B1 contains Y

"joining" would do

A1 contains XY B1 is empty

Optionally the destination cell for join result could be chosen.

This should also be possible for columns: "concatenating" column Bs content to
column As content, when "joining" A and B (again optionally A to B)

When "merging", the behaviour should also be more varied: concatenate B to A,
take A only, take B only, take nothing when _merging_ cell; this is different
from just joining cell content: join result = still 2 cells; merge result = 1
cell

Comment 1 lars 2002-08-31 15:10:27 UTC
is it also a good idea to give the option "paste with concatenation",
so that if I copy column A and paste it into column B, I'm asked
whether I like a concatenation to occur? Thiw would be easier if this
issues main topic functionality exited. Should I write a new issue
with this request which "depends on" this issue?

For asking the user whether concat. should occur: Use the technique
as in issue 7185: Paste normally, then have that window fade in!

You see how great it (OOo) could be !?! :-)

that issue will have the title: "recognize multiple day changes
automatically"

there is a similar issue for just one day change which has not been
started yet and there is a fixed issue for erroneous interval length
behaviour.

(You'll understand, when you open the example document)

and YES , this join function is a good one to have: it can make
life easier and that's sth. Calc should do: allow me to easily do
things quick !!

That's way a spreadsheet has functions! These are used for joining
cell content.
