Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74205
Photos shrunk to a point in some files saved as doc
Last modified: 2007-02-08 16:33:35 UTC
Beyond some threshold file length, files containing photos lose some of their photos when saved as MSWord doc files (any variety, I'm using XP/97/2000). File length does not appear to reflect the loss of the images. Threshold file length is uncertain but 5 MB is definitely long enough. When saved as ODT files, no problem. My system has 224 MB RAM, in case that matters.
Please try with a newer version of OOo, such as OO 2.1 or 2.2 RC. If this does not solve your problem, please attach the offending document (native .odt which will lose the graphics when exported to .doc format) to this issue, so that we can reproduce and fix the problem here. You can also send the document directly (mru@openoffice.org) for the case it contains confidential data. Feel free to re-open the issue when you've done. Thanks for supporting us!
Installed OO 2.1. 2.1 properly converts a 27 MB file on which 2.0 "loses" photos, but both versions "lose" 5 of the 6 photos in a 5 MB file, which I've emailed to MRU for confidentiality rather than attach it here. There is a small probability that the 27 MB file now converting properly is due to a Windows 98 update rather than to switching from OO 2.0 to 2.1. I now observe (can't say whether this was true with 2.0) that the picture in the saved file is not "lost" but shrunk to a point, and can be stretched back out to normal size for display when the file is reopened. Saving again as a doc file does the same thing again. I've changed the Summary from "Long files lose photos when saved as doc" to "Photos shrunk to a point in some files saved as doc", and the Version to 2.1. I've designated this as P2 priority, since it prevents using the product to produce doc files for some documents.
Yeah, this problem is also known, see issue 59648 (Graphic shrink to null-size when exported). *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 59648 ***
