Description dhoehns 2007-02-14 18:37:15 UTC
Twenty-two sheet calc file with very little formulae constantly fails, ie.
become not responding, and must be closed. The subsiquent restore works, but
will fail again. Also loading this file takes forever.

Hi,

please attach a file showing this behaviour and of course use at least the
latest stable version which currently is OOo2.1. Otherwise this Issue is not
reproducible and therefore invalid.

OF: Adding the summary for easier querying Vista issues.

Hi,

got the files by Mail. For the next time please use the create a new attachment
link in the Issue itself for attaching them to it. If you send such documents by
Mail, please refference the Issue your talking about in the Mail. I discovered
the correct Issue just by luck.

The ultimate problem in these files are about 1500 linked 1 Pixel graphics. Each
and every link has to be resolved on loading the doc. If the website does not
respond the timeout has to be reached for each and every link consuming a lot of
time. On Vistra is much worse as it seems that Vista itself has an influence on
the connection to the host of these graphics. But this will be evaluated further.

To solve your problem with extensive loading times you have two choices :

1.) Break the links and save these graphics with the file.
2.) Remove the graphics from the file as they are not necessary and do not give
any value.

@cd
Carsten please have a look at this one. Writer with about 1200 Webbugs shows
also a limitation on Vista.

Removing those pixels did the trick. I did not realize I had been coping
objects from the internet source.

I got rid of them by copying and pasting special with object turned off, but I
don't know how you saw them in the first place.

If you care to share, I would appreciate it, but I really appreciate what you
have done for me already. Thanks

Hi David,

that's easy, just hit F5 to open the Navigator or use Edit-Links. Especially the
Navigator is a surprising thing. And it works in the whole Office not just the
Spreadsheet.

Thank you, Frank.

I started using OO years ago, preferring it to Xcel and Word for lots of
reasons, but I just jumped in doing the things I had informally learned while
previously using the stuff from the "evil empire". I really need to do some
tutorials.

My issue is certainly resolved to my satisfaction.

Thanks again.

This task is duplicate to #7553#. All documents containing a lot of linked
graphics will run into a looonnnggg timeout ... so this problem isnt realy a
vista only problem. Nevertheless we should have a look onto vista after the
referred task was fixed to see if vista might have some other problems.
