MILESTONE 11 from
http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/chart2_second_integration_candidate_ready
crashes on install when soffice.exe is executed with the error message
"The application cannot be started. An internal error occured." This happens
every time.

Sorry there is not more information. Maybe the installer needs work not only to
correct whatever is crashing, but to be enhanced to provide useful error
messages. This could be done with set points with point values that will be
printed out with the error.

I also attempted to install the milestone 11 by using the Extension Manager,
which fail aslo. The error message is perhaps better at communicating. It reads

QUOTE:

Adding Extension(s):
The operation on
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Joe/Application%20
Data/OpenOffice.org2/user/uno_packages/cache/uno_packages
/492.tmp_/ooo_chart2_milestone11_windows.zip/ooo_chart2_
milestone11_windows/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/
TypeDetection/Types/fcfg_internalgraphics_types.xcu was
started with an invalid parameter.

The snapshot is a pre-installed office version. We created in on an Intel 32bit Windows machine. What OS
have you used when trying to start soffice.exe?

Have you tried unzipping the downloaded zip-file for a second time? Maybe that also helps.

@IHA: pls have a look, i'm not able to reproduce and the submittet infos are not
significant.

Hi joeconner,
There should be no installation involved. Just extract the zip and then start
soffice.exe.
So am not sure what you mean with 'the installation crashes'? Which windows do
you use?
Comment 4 joeconner 2007-03-03 17:40:57 UTC
OS is Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all the updates. .NET is not installed. I
used the built-in windows zip extractor. I am attaching a file, Milestone 11
Errors.odt, which has images of the error messages, and my machine specifications.

Thanks joe. Hm, but I still cannot see any reason for your crash. I would guess
that something went wrong during copying, so I would like to beg you to download
again.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Comment 7 joeconner 2007-03-07 16:03:38 UTC
What version of OpenOffice did you use that worked? Was it 2.20 release candidate?
For what it is worth, I could not locate an MD5SUM for Milestone 11 so it is
possible but unlikely that I got a corrupted copy. I have a direct high-speed
connection to the internet so my downloads do not get interrupted unless the
server side crashes during the download process.

I re-downloaded and executed the unzip directory's SOFFICE.EXE. It worked much
better this time, although not perfectly. Both times the download had the same
number of bytes, but since I could not locate an MD5SUM for this download I
cannot be sure that even now I have a perfect download.

When executing SOFFICE.EXE I did receive a series of installation error
messages, (altogether five, although the attachment will show only the first
four since they seem to be all complaining about the same problem) which I will
attach after filing these comments.

Comment 12 Regina Henschel 2007-03-07 20:27:34 UTC
Do you have really unzipped the downloaded file? You must unzip it. You cannot
run soffice out of the zipped file.
Comment 13 IngridvdM 2007-03-08 09:30:02 UTC
If you only extract the zip to an emtpy directory the sub directory
.../ooo_chart2_milestone11_windows/share/uno_packages/cache
should be completely empty.
Also after starting soffice.exe from
.../ooo_chart2_milestone11_windows/program
no files will be created in .../uno_packages/cache/...

The remaining error messages indicate that you did something with the extension
manager or related. What did you do in addition?
