Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 75049
Change the default OpenOffice.org Application Background Color
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:31:14 UTC
I would say that this issue is a ux enhancement. At the moment, one of the most visible difference between OOo and Ms Office is the background color (cf screenshot). It would just make OOo look better to change it to something else that the current grey.

This color may already be changed via: Tools > Options... > OpenOffice.org > Appearance > Application background. So, this would satisfy my need as a User to change my preference. However, I guess you're enhancement request is more wrt to the out-of-box color used. Any suggestions? The grey used is pretty similar to the default in my copy of MS Office... in fact, I had never even noticed the color until now...
I noticed the difference about colors when tried Office 2007. I will attach a screenshot.

I would say that for chosing a color, the UX guy's would be the right to ask for it. mmp and the UX guys already started working on colors (for the chart and for the OOo palette). This could be a next step. BTW, I created a related issue 75091

Hi! I voted for this issue - it would be an important UI change for OOo - and an easy one, to make the default application background color nicer than this ugly gray default. See posted screenshot. A related enhancement would be to make the the "text limit line" color lighter (as in my screenshot) - by default it is too dark, without any reason and interferes with a WYSIWYG feeling as it will not be printed! (Word doesn't display the "text limit line" by default at all.) While I think the "text limit line" can be useful, it should be a very light line... These could be two great enhancements for OOo, without too much hours of work!
Correction: With "text limit line" I meant: "Text boundaries" in the Options > Appearance dialog.

cj, I added you to this issue because you are in the ux team. Could you ceck if such a task has already been evaluated? Thanks! BTW, is there a keyword user_experience or ux or similar?
Would it be possible to change the Summary from "Change the OpenOffice.org Background Color" to "Change the default OpenOffice.org Application Background Color" ? "Application Background" is the correct terminology, and it would prevent duplicates like Issue 89563.
My issue may be a duplicate of this one (Issue 89563), so I'll repost here: This applies to all the other components as well. For OOo3, we need to get rid of some of the grey. It's so Windows 95-ish. It may be a bit of Office Envy, but especially now I'm on Vista and moved to Office 2007, I'm sick of grey everywhere. I propose a default Application Background called Steel Blue: Something like Hue:210 Saturation: 40 Brightness: 85 (RGB 128 171 214)
I just applied RGB decimal 53/85/107 (="Sun Blue - Secondary") to my instance of OOo; this is a calm and dark blue background. Stella, can you pick a color and forward this to...(?) to get it implemented? Thanks. BTW_ Do we have an issue to paint a smooth alpha shadow for the pages? The thick black lines do also need a refreshment.
hi frank, this issue should be fixed with the renaissance project. please take care about the consistent colors of all backgrounds inside office - also the start center. http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo_startup_dialog.html#03full It would be wonderful to have a subtle gradient, too... ;)
Branch-date (feature- and code-freeze) for OOo 3.2 is nearly done. Therefore I change the target of this issue to OOo 3.x. If you think it is a stopper for OOo 3.2 please change the target back.
