Description nconantj 2007-04-09 15:12:30 UTC
I'm running OOo 2.2 under Windows Vista Home Premium via Parallels Desktop on Mac OSX 10.4.9.

The issue is saving as an OpenDocument Spreadsheet to a Parallels Shared Folder. When I try to save a
new document (or current document under a different name), I get the following error message...

Error saving the document InsuranceCashFlow: //Old file name
\\.PSF\Home Directory\Desktop\InsuranceCashFLow2.ods does not exist. //New file name with full

When I click OK, the following error message comes up (it is the only message if I try to save changes to
the same file name).

Error saving the document InsuranceCashFLow:
General Error.
General input/output error.

When I save an OpenDocument Spreadsheet to a local folder, no problem occurs. Additional, no
problem occurs with Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP formatted documents.

please provide screenshot of the error message.
Also try saving text doc to the same location.

As can be seen by the screenshots, this problem also occurs in writer.
Comment 5 kpalagin 2007-04-11 05:03:33 UTC
so you are saying that only .ods and .odp formats are affected? And you can
save .xls and .doc just fine?
Hopefully somebody with Mac will confirm the problem.
In the mean time try mapping the path to drive letter.

I am changing component to framework.
Comment 6 frank 2007-04-17 14:43:28 UTC
changed summary and re-assign to owner of component
Comment 7 thorsten.martens 2007-04-18 09:16:08 UTC
changed to porting because problem isn't reproducible on Win/PC, Linux or Sparc.

Looking at the screenshots, the issue occured using parallels, and I'd like to
add some comments :

- Parallels is a software still in development, and we have no guarantee
everything works, nor have (unfortunaly) enough ressources to verify this issue
( could be a bad parallels configuration or something like that )
- Parallels does virtualization : here Windows on Mac OS X
- this issue isn't repeatable on Windows (nor Linux nor Sparc), without use
parallels, but directly using Mac OS X (whatever version) ?

The best I can do is try to find somebody using parallels , to see if this issue
is reproducable.

It's weird, but I can confirm this issue.

Just some term definitions.

Shared folder (with uppercase S) - it's a special folder(s) to share files
between guest / host machine only. In VMWare Fusion, special hostname is created
(.host) to access these shares. These folders are mapped as drives and they are
normally visible in guest OS.

Folder shared (with lowercase s) - it's shared folder, not by Fusion / Paralles,
but by Mac OS X (Samba). These folders are accessible from all computers on the

So, when I browse networks in Windows XP (guest), I can see my Mac 2x times -
".host" (Fusion) and "Robert Vojta" (Samba in Mac OS X).

I use VMWare Fusion and I've got the same error message. "\\.host\...\test.odt"
doesn't exist. My full path is:

drive Z: is mapped as \\.host\Shared Folders\Shared folder

I can save any type of document to shared folder (Samba - Mac OS X). I can save
Word 97 (doc) to Shared folder (Fusion), but I *can't* save ODT to Shared folder

I tested another applications like Wordpad, etc. and they are able to write to
all folders. As you can see, OO.o can store DOC there too, but no ODT.

I've no idea what can be wrong. If someone wants more info, just let me know.

And I tested it now with m37, which is the latest version I have and it works.
But another issue appears - I can save the file to Shared folder, but I can't
overwrite it. I can overwrite file in shared folder, but not in Shared folder.

Additional comment - this happens sometimes only and is not easily reproducible.
Really weird ...

Is the problem still reproducible with OOo3.1? There were big changes in storing
process, especially in locking process, after m37.

Reset assigne to the default "".
