Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 76287
Allow zooming while editing embedded OLE objects (e.g. drawings)
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:37:38 UTC
When I edit an embedded Drawing in Write (by double-clicking on the Drawing), I should be able to zoom in and out. Why should the zoom feature of Write be disabled why I'm editing a drawing? The counter argument I've heard is that Ms-Word works this way with embedded Visio drawings . However other word processors do not have this restriction. For example, IBM/Lotus WordPro allows zooming while embedded drawings are being edited. You just click View->Zoom as usual.
Reassigned to requirements.
I have to fully support this one. In fact, it is completly beyond my understanding, how this feature can be disabled intentionally (see http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=38965). When you insert a drawing into writer as an OLE Object, the zoom level is what was used the last time the drawing was edited in OO Draw. The only way to modify how the drawing appears in OO Writer is to configure how it is displayed in OO Draw. Bad luck if you have not linked the objects, then you're really out of luck to change the scale of the embedded object. Is this really how it's meant to be? What is missing, is in my opinion: 1) The possibility to define a scale for all objects, drawings in OO Writer, so that you can downscale embedded drawings and other objects 2) If you copy&paste a page from OO Draw (from pages sidebar) to OO Writer, paste the complete page, not just a group of the drawings. 3) Make the display in OO Writer independent of the display in other applications.
