Description ydubinsky 2007-04-25 04:13:32 UTC
when open new window in writer the document is displayed starting from the very
first page. Writer in OO 2 doesn't keep the current position of the previous
window. Writer in OO 1 like other word processors keeps it.
The test was performed on Windows and Linux platforms.
I think this issue is related to the fact that in OO 1 Navigator is common for
all windows, but in OO 2 every window has separate Navigator.
I don't discuss here Navigator behavior, however I think the old Navigator is
more useful. But, the correct position in the second windows saves a lot of
time during the work.

@ydubinsky: you can use Shift+F5 in the new window to jump to the last cursor
position.

@os: as described.

@mmp: we forgot this in the spec. Please add this point. Thanx!

IIRC Writer *does* restore the cursor position if the user that has edited the
file is the same as the one that opens it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. So
this is WFM for me (works as designed by MMP).

@es: Shift-F5 restores the cursor position from the last save-load operation. It
doesn't help when creating a new window while editing the document.

After Window/New window the cursor position should be restored from the previous
window.

Oops, I misinterpreted the "new window" thing. Sorry. :-)

Hi,
For me, the cursor position in the new window is the same as in the first window.
But the new window *shows* the beginning of the doc.
Arrow left/right, brings the view to the cursor position.

This is what I understood from reading the issue:

- Tools - Option - OOo - User Data : user name set properly
- save Writer document while cursor is on second page (for example)
- close Writer document
- open Writer document
=> Cursor is on second page (correct) but the first page is displayd (bug)

Has this been verified by QA?

Matthias, you have fallen into the same trap as I have. :-)
ydubinsky is talking about the function "Window-New Window". It does not present
the same view as the old window.

ok - thanks - so do we have an issue here?

Is it a feature request that Window - New Window shall open on the very same
view area than the 1st window? Or at the current cursor position?
Comment 9 Mathias_Bauer 2007-04-26 16:43:49 UTC
I think the request is valid. Restoring the position shouldn't be too hard to
implement as I assume.
Comment 10 matthias.mueller-prove 2007-04-27 08:11:54 UTC
fine - let me rephrase the feature enhancement:

The command "Window - New Window" in Writer should
1) open an additional window with an offset to the former window to make it obvious to the user that a
new window has been created
3) make the selection/cursor position the same as in the former window
4) make the view parameter (zoom level and visible area) the same as in the former window

"former window" refers to the Writer window where the command has been chosen. -- There can be
more than 2 document windows.

Do we have similar issues in other modules - Calc, Impress, ... ?
