I used oooforum.org to locate and understand my problem. I was encouraged to 
ask for an enhancement of the feature "linking to external file".

I would like to be able to link to whole external documents from a main 
document. At the moment I can link to individual pages in an external ducument, 
but when I add pages in the external document and update, they do not appear in 
the main document. The new pages need to manually added, which is not what i 
would expect when I "link" to the external document.

Set to new and chang ethe target.

In my mind it's a defect and not an enhancement.
In my mind all changes of the linked document should be updated therefore also
adding or deleting slides.
The behavior is also different to the help 'update links'
Please have a look.
