Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 77765
edit cell contents in overtype actually inserts
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:13:35 UTC
Editing cell contents by clicking in the input line, and pressing [Insert] to change to Overtype mode, actually inserts, and creates a descrepency between the cell and the input line. (This works with any existing spreadsheet), but to reproduce: New spreadsheet, Type in cell A1 something like: "ABC DEF" Desire to change contents, Click in input line, perhaps at the E Change to Overtype Mode, type "ef". See changes in input line looks like: "ABC Def" See changes in cell below looks like: "ABC DefEF" Press [Enter] Get second results. Not as expected.
What version of OpenOffice.org are you using?? I just tried in OOo 2.2.1 (Win XP SP2) and I get the correct result (ie. "ABC Def"). It WORKS FOR ME.
Just confirmed it is still in 2.2.1 rc2 OOo_2.2.1rc2_20070519_LinuxIntel_install_en-US.tar.gz
I checked with "2.2.1 Multilingual German version WIN XP: [680m18(Build9161)]" and can confirm the effect, after <ENTER> The result in A1 ie "ABC DeefF", although input pane showed "ABC Deef", pls. see attached demo movie!
Created attachment 47204 [details] demo movie showing unexpected result

Hi Niklas, typed ABC DEF into a cell, pressed Enter, selected Cell by doubleclick and set the input cursor in front of the E in the edit line. Changed to overwright mode and typed ef. Input line is correct but cell is not. Frank
This bug is still present in release 3.1 It happens when clicking in the edit/formula bar between the Formatting toolbar and the row/column grid. To the right of the math button and = (function button) Pressing Ins to toggle to Overtype does not change the results, whether I am already in overtype, or press Ins once or twice. Click in edit bar, type over a character, press [Enter]. Check result. :( This bug does not occur when pressing [Enter] to edit with the cursor below, within the grid area.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
