Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 78806
WW8: text and fields in table lost on export
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
I open the attached document (.doc) file and complete the first page. I save the document. I then open the document and the text I typed-in, and some of the prior text, is gone! How do I attach the document in question?
Created attachment 46185 [details] This is the document referenced in the bug report
Can reproduce with OOo2.2.1 B 9161 Linux i86 RPM de_DE. It is sufficient to open the attached document and to save it again, without making any changes to it (i.e. File -> Open; File -> Save as -> .doc). "screen_original_wv" is a screenshot of the original document seen in the MS Word Viewer. "screen_ooo_wv" is a screenshot of the document saved without any changes 1 time in OOo Writer as .doc, seen in the MS Word Viewer. It seems as if the document contains nested tables, maybe this causes some of the problems? Confirming issue and leaving its prio to 2 as this might lead to data loss. mbayer->andrew_w_oxford: Please consider to - upgrade to latest stable release of OOo, 2.0.4 is not up-to-date - demand forms in platform-independent file formats such as ODT or PDF from FoE - print a hard-copy of the document with the MS Word Viewer (works under Wine).

Created attachment 46213 [details] Unaltered testcase document seen in word viewer after being saved in OOo.
MRU->HBRINKM: when (re-)exporting the attached doc to WW8 format, most of the content in the tables will be lost when reopening the document.

usability. we need to prevent data lost
The loss of data is caused by the nested tables, indeed. I tried to understand, how we export tables to WW8. I do not find any support for nested tables. It seems, to fix this issue we need a major redesign of the WW8 export. => new target
