Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 80036
Table border default line 0.5 pt instead 0.05 pt
Last modified: 2014-04-03 11:19:48 UTC
I want to place a frame around a text line. I am doing this by marking the line and then choosing "Tabelle" "Umwandeln" "Text in Tabelle". The frame around the text line can be seen. When I am printing 2 pages on 1 sheet of paper (I am doing this for a huge book) the above line will not be printed. I know this problem from other tables. It can be frustrating. I can correct this by choosing "Umrandungsstil" 1pt. I feel "1pt" should be the default one without having to adjust for. Its a bad look and feel if you see a line on the screen but not on the printed paper using a standard Laser printer HP4000 with a standard driver. I also feel it would be an enhancement if by clicking on "Tabelle" "Linienstil" the actual value would be shown. So would be more easy to work with. Best Regards Matthias Weisser

other people in the de-users know this problem. So it is not really new. One solution could be using a 1pt size. One guy feels 1pt is too big to be used as a default value. 0.5pt would be fine. In the menu "Tabelle" "Linienstil" unfortunately there is no possibility to choose "0.5pt". Only possible is "1pt" or "hair line". So that does not seem to make sense. In the menu "Tabelle" there is also a field "Tabelleneigenschaften". Going to this there can be found "Umrandung". In this field the "line stile" can be set to 0.05pt, 0.5pt or 1pt. Why there are such different options offered to do just the same? Why are the options different? I hope this can be optimized further for a more easy work and unterstanding. I still feel that the default line size should be changed. But may be changing from "hair line" to 0.5pt would be the better solution. If doing so the menu "Tabelle" "Linienstil" should be changed to also give the possibility to change to 0.5pt which is now not possible. Best Regards Matthias Weisser
The title of the discussion in the de-users is Re: [de-users] Writer: Rahmen drucken klappt nicht korrekt Thomas Schoeneberg agrees with my comments. A "hair line" should not be named different in 2 different menus like 0.05pt in the other one. In different menus the possibilities to change line type should be consistent. 0.5pt cannot be choosen in one menue. Thomas agrees that a default value of 0.5pt would be ok instead of using a "hair line" today.
Under the topic "Re: [de-users] Problem bei Umrandungen" Horst Joehnk reports problems with "surroundings of cells" not shown in print outs from OO Calc. So this behaviour of OO does not seem to be related only to writer. In page layout the lines can be seen, but are not printed correctly - he reports. A problem with the printer does not seem to be the case. Thomas Schoeneberg talks about that the default setting for lines is only 0,05 pt. Therefore it cannot be printed on most printers. One cannot be sure what will happen if printed. There is a clear difference between what you see and what you get. This is simply not the case when using "Word", because Word uses more appropriate defaults in this case. This topic should be switched to "confirmed". A solution should be designed.
