Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 80227
OpenOffice Crashes when 40 new docs created
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:31:02 UTC
In openoffice, if I create 40 new documents (ctrl-n 40 times) on the creation of the 40th doc, openoffice crashes. This is fully reproducable each time. I have also been able to reproduce it on 2.0. I have also tried the same thing on Ubuntu with 2.0 and the creation of new docs works fine. I have tried this on 3 separate machines with similar results.
What makes you think that this is a P1 issue? It is just a crash and doesn't make the Office unusable. Please describe your hardware configuration.
Hardware Configuration: IBM Thinkpad T42p Intel Pentium M 1.80 GHz 2 gigs ram. Running Windows XP SP2 As for my P1 assignment, the office was unusable as it had fallen over.
The office is unusable under *very* special circumstances which seems to be a not very common user experience.
TM->AS: as talked about,... it's reproducible on my mashine after 58 new documents. Please have a look, thanks !
The problem is the following one: every opened document consumes system resources (here window handles). And after some open documents there are no further handles available. As a result of that the whole system cant open any window (even an attached debugger cant open message boxes ... nor the system start menu can be opened any longer). So it depends from the system you use ... and further from the count of already open windows on your desktop how many office documents can be opened. The only solution can be: our graphic library VCL must detect how many free handles are available and stop opening of new windows if a magic number will be reached. AS->PL: please take over - seams to be more your area .-) ps: there is no stack trace I can send you ... because even the debugger stopped working. Everything I saw was related to VCL controls and windows.
pl->as: even if we fix that the next thing is you will complain that the window does not appear. pl->hdu: this is duplicate to your most beloved stacktrace, no more resources, no more function.
