Description Unknown 2002-10-04 15:00:22 UTC
An MS Word doc contains embedded charts generated from MS Excel.
The charts display in Writer, they are internally consistent (ie.
data labels and axes match as do the bars) but the numbers are
completely different to those in the original. The same MS Word doc
saved (by MS Word) as rtf displays correctly. Doc is MS Word 8.0
and Excel is of the same vintage.

Showstopper! Since the charts are internally consistent, the
error can only be detected by reference to either accompanying text
or by viewing the doc in MS Word. There is significant risk of
wrong data being viewed and accepted.

I'm attaching: WeatherMay_Spring2002.doc, WeatherMay_Spring2002.rtf

the .doc exhibits the bug while the .rtf displays correctly.

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Try setting the following options:

Tools->Options->Load/Save->Microsoft Office->Excel to OpenOffice.org

Try enabling and disabling the Excel conversion objects.

The .doc file looks good to me using Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 643.

No joy. Did all combinations of Excel -> OpenOffice.org bothe load
and save. Charts still displaying wrong numbers. Please scroll down
to the chart headed "May 2002 Percentage / Difference from 1961-90
monthly normals" and look at the "Rainfall (% of normal for period
1961 - 1990)". What values do you see for "Belmullet" and for "Birr"?
Repeat please with the .rtf document. When I do these, I see

Doc type Belmullet Birr
doc 127 117
rtf 190 183

The rtf displays the correct data.

In both cases the document _looks_ fine, the charts are internally
consistent but the chart asa displayed in the Word doc are just wrong!

Using OOo 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 on RH Linux 7.2 with updates.

Thanks for the update.

Just to nail things down, I'm looking at the first chart on page 3.

In OOo 643 ( Win NT 4.0 SP6a ), I see 190 and 183 for Belmullet and
Birr respectively. I see the same values in Word 2K.

Unable to duplicate on RH 8.0, OOo 643.

Duplicated on RH 8.0, OOo 1.0.1.

If possible, try opening the file using the unstable developer build
643. Developer builds are for testing purposesly only.

Confirming your statements:

Referencing first chart on page 3 of the doc.

Word Doc displays correctly with OOo 643 on RH7.2 but wrongly with OOo
1.0 on RH7.2.

Will this make it into 1.0x soon?

Incidentally, OOo 643 won't install on RH7.2 under Gnome.
Gnome-core-1.4.0.4. Fails on "can't find gconftool-2". Gconf-1.0.4
installed contains only gconftool-1. Installs correctly under
WindowMaker.

Thanks for the update.

Unfortunately I do not know when the changes in 643 will make it into
the next release.

1.0.2 may be released soon, so we'll have to check this issue again
using that build.
