Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 80711
bug copying slides
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:55:40 UTC
Hi. I found the following Draw/Impress bug in StarOffice 8 Product Update 7: Steps to reproduce: 1. open a blank Draw or Impress document 2. hold down the left-mouse-button over (lmb) "Slide 1" in the Page Pane - be fast, DON'T WAIT more than about 0,5s before doing step 3 - 3. move the cursor below Slide 1 4. hold down CTRL (while the lmb is still hold down): Note the pointer-icon gets a "+" which indicates the user that a copy will be built 5. release the lmb: There is no copy of the sheet. ----------------- The correct way for copying Slides and drawing objects it to wait more than the about 0,5s between step 2 and 3 while not moving the mouse. The bug with the +pointer only happens for Slides, not for objects. ----------------- First I thought the solution is to not show the +pointer if the user does not wait the 0,5s. But after thinking more, I think the delay makes no sense for dragging slides: For dragging objects it IS needed, because CTRL-key has 2 functions: 1. if the user waits the 0,5s: CTRL is used to copy objects 2. if the user does not wait the 0,5s: CTRL suppresses snap-to-grid, for fine-possitioning But for dragging slides no fine positioning is possible. So I think differentiating between two dragging-modes does not make sense for slides. So the solution for this bug is - in my opinion - when dragging slides to initiate the dragging mode with the pointer-icon that shows a rectangle INSTANTLY after holding down the lmb. A second dragging mode after waiting should not be available.
The current behaviour is REALLY confusing, because the +pointer lets the user think that he does the correct steps for copying sheets, but it doesn't work. I really have need much time to find out that...
There is a mistake in my steps to reproduce the bug: In step 4, before holding down CTRL, CTRL has to be pressed (hold down and released) once. This changes the pointer to a pointer with a rectangle. And after that, holding down the lmb (again) changes the pointer-icon to a +pointer. I forgot to mention, that the "Slide Sorter" is affected of the bug, too.
Set to new and change the target.
In windows everything works correct but I can reproduce the bug with Solaris. Please have a look.
