Description jpeter20 2007-10-02 04:38:29 UTC
This problem happens in all OO component programs I tried (Writer, Calc,
Impress). I am using Ubuntu 7.04 and have the "unclutter" program running,
which hides the cursor after a short delay, to get it out of the way. Unclutter
works properly with all programs I've seen so far except OO. OO seems to be
trying repeatedly to re-display the cursor, and as a result, the cursor appears
to flutter off and on quickly. This would be a minor annoyance except that the
CPU is also 100% loaded during the cursor fluttering. If I shake the mouse, a
solid cursor reappears in the OO window, and the CPU load goes away.

That would be a VCL problem. At least in Writer we just ask VCL to show a
blinking cursor. If there is a way to deactivate the cursor on system level and
all (really?) other apps on that platform support this perhaps it would be VCL
that should provide the necessary support.

I'm not sure what VCL is... However, I can add an important comment: I've
noticed that the problem with unclutter seems to be linked to GNOME itself.
I've noticed that several more windows outside of OO exhibit the same mouse
cursor flutter and 100% CPU load problem. For example, try
"System->Preferences->Theme", then with unclutter running, let the mouse cursor
disappear over the GNOME theme window at a point where there are no controls or
displays. The cursor will flutter and CPU load will go to 100%. This must be a
bug for GNOME or unclutter. Thanks.

Unconfirm with OO 2.3.1 Pro on Ubuntu 7.10 (with Gnome 2.20.1) 64-bit.
Maybe, it is the problem of Gnome 2.18.

Worksforme as per adept.

jpeter20,
please upgrade to current Gnome and see if you still have the same problem.
Comment 5 kpalagin 2008-01-24 06:49:30 UTC
Closing.

OK, thanks for testing it with the newest GNOME. I will try it at the next
Ubuntu release (8.04). For now, I have uninstalled "unclutter" and the problem
has gone away.
