Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 82343
OOo 2.3-rc3 fails to find Java on Windows XP x64
Last modified: 2008-11-07 12:43:58 UTC
Openoffice 2.3-rc3 is unable to find any of the many JREs that I have on my Windows XP SP2 x64 edition. How to reproduce: Open the "Options" dialog, select "Openoffice.org/Java", and then check the "Use JRE" box. Click on the "Add..." button, and select any JRE under "C:\Program Files (x86)" or whatever the x86 program files directory is. The file dialog won't pick any directory (like C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jreXXXXX or C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jreXXXXX\bin). Also tested with the native x64 JDKs installed on the x64 program files folder. Otherwise, Openoffice 2.3-rc3 runs fine under x64 WOW32 emulation, so far.
Are you sure that you don't have 64bit Java only? OOo 2.x doesn't support 64bit Java.
Have three 32-bit JREs installed, none picked by OOo.
Does this happen also in a newer version of OOo?
With OOo 2.3, I de-installed all the 32-bit JREs and removed all the 32-bit Java directories, both the "real" directories and the old ones left out by the automated Java update process, then installed a single JRE (6.0). This fixed the problem. And OOo 2.4 works just fine. However, as I no longer have the multiple-version JRE mess, I'm not sure that the issue is really gone. Since nobody else has reported it, I'm closing this bug. Soon, I'll have to install a Java 5 JRE; will report if I find problems with the next OOo upgrade.
