Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 82436
Resetting text highlight color by icon not sticky
Last modified: 2013-02-07 21:52:51 UTC
In Writer there's an icon to highlight a portion of a text with a color. It is not working properly however when one tries to remove the highlight. The icon does not remember the setting. The bug is present in 2.3 and older versions od Writer, tested on Windows and Linux. To reproduce: 1. Write two words in Writer, and highlight one of them with some color using the icon. 2. Select the other word and click the icon again. It gets highlighted. 3. Remove the highlighting using the icon (click on arrow, then select 'no highlighting'). The highlight is removed. 4. Now select the other word which is still highlighted, and click the icon. Highlight is not removed.
Can't reproduce using 2.4m2. Also can't fine the button that says "no highlighting". apienk01, please provide screenshot of the button you are talking about. Also please see if you can try developer build of OpenOffice.
First, I need to apologize for not using proper names. I normally use Polish localized version of Openoffice.org, so I just guessed how some strings are in English. Where I wrote 'no highlighting' there should be 'no fill'. I just downloaded 2.4m2, and the bug is still there. Again, here are the steps to reproduce - this time I'll try to be more specific. 1. Write two words in Writer, select the first of them, and highlight it with any color you like by clicking the arrow next to the toolbar icon showing 'ab' and a pen, and selecting the color. 2. Select the second word and click the 'ab' icon (not the arrow). The word gets highlighted. 3. Now select the first word again, and remove the highlighting by clicking the arrow next to 'ab' icon and selecting 'no fill'. The highlight is removed. 4. Then select the second word which is still highlighted, and click the 'ab' icon (not the arrow). Highlight is not removed, while it should be removed. The only way to remove the highlight is to use the arrow and select 'no fill'. Hope it helps.

sts -> fl: hi frank, please have a look at this behavior. thank you.
Confirming with 2.4m2 on WinXP - as described.
I confirm this bug is also present in version 2.4.
Still present in 3.2.1. A more striking example: 1. Write two words in Writer. 2. Select the first word and highlight it by clicking the icon. The word turns yellow. 3. Select the second word and this time click the arrow to select the highlight colour (red). The icon and the word turn red. 3. Now click the arrow again and select 'no highlight'. The highlight is removed from the word, and the icon turns transparent. 4. Select the other word which is still highlighted in yellow and click the transparent icon. The word turns red. If the icon's behaviour is meant to be sticky then the current highlight colour displayed on the icon should also be sticky. Now this is inconsistent.
