Description nazcafan 2007-10-17 00:57:26 UTC
Hello,

If you chose kotoeri for japanese input and start typing, the kanas
progressively appear underlined until you press space and get a list of choices
for the corresponding kanjis. Then you validate your choice using enter (and the
text is not underlined anymore).
Once this choice is validated, you should be able to backspace or use arrow
keys to move the cursor right away (at least that is the behaviour I had noticed
using other apps).
However, with aqua port 680mm233 writer (french version), backspace and
arrowkeys are unresponsive until I
-switch back to (normal) french input method
-or start typing new characters (others than the spacebar),

I did further testing, and realised when trying to force kotoeri to switch to
katakana (repeated ctrl+shift+k), the repetition of the keyboard shortcut can
lead to an even worse blocked situation :
  - event with French layout, no possibility to use arrows to move cursor
  - no backspace eiter
  - menu items (noticed apple + C and apple + V, save) are not responsive though
sometimes, writer sort of "unlocks" and everything I had tried is then executed
in a second.
-if I switch to kotoeri, I can type but arrow keys will only allow moves in
the limits of the underlined japanese text I am just writing.

Funny, with this bug I could crash my whole system by shooting down the input
manager !

I've built aquavcl04 with m239 again in my spare time last weekend, and found
there is still one problem related to Kotoeri and backspace key.

1) input one Hiragana with Kotoeri, for example ã‚ with 'A' key, then text with
underline attribute is shown.
2) press delete key, but the string is not deleted.

I think the attached patch fixes the problem. pl, is it OK to commit on aquavcl04?

As my last report didn't make it on time for aquavcl04, I've just added a new
issue #85815
