Description owqcd 2007-10-27 00:13:04 UTC

in the current state of OO Draw, it is very cumbersome to write text containing
inline formulas :

If I want to write : "The result is %alpha = 1 if %gamma < 0"

I start a text box and write : "The result is ". Then I do : Insert > Object >
Formula, but contrary to what happens in OO Writer, the formula is not created
is the text sequence, but as an independant object in the middle of the page.

This is very cumbersome for scientists who would like to use OO.

So I would like a way to enter inline mathematical formulas the same way as in
OO Writer, but in OO Draw.

Remark : The same demand was opened several years ago for the Presentation
componenent (issue 22309). However, I faced the problem while using OO Draw, so
I open this bug for the Draw componenent.

I'd suggest you to do:

insert a formula, containing :

"\"The result is" %alpha =1 "if"%gamma <0 "\""

Text can be inserted between " " and if you want to insert " char, just escape it using \ before

I know this workaround and it is satisfactory for short one line notes, but not
for paragraphs :

The object produced that way does not behave as a text paragraph. If the width
of the box is decreased, a simple scaling in the x direction is applied. However
what is expected is the reorganization of the lines (line breaking, addition of
more lines,...).

NOTE : a text paragraph, containing mathematical formulas, can be created in OO
Writer and then copy/pasted in OO Draw. The OLE objet pasted in OO Draw behaves
exactly as is expected !

However it is not convenient to make this operation all the time (especially for
scientific drawings) ! It should be possible to make it directly in OO Draw.

The point is just to allow a feature of OO Writer in OO Draw (the feature being
the inline insertion of formulas in a text paragraph).

In my mind this is a feature and not a defect.

You mean that not being able to anchor a formula in the text in OO Draw is a
feature ?

I don't get your point.

Did you read issue 22309 and issue 29989 ? I think the people there also would
like this possibility.
