OO has equation editor based on MathML but importing XHTML with embedded MathML
not supported.

For test case you can get any page from http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite/

xhtml filter for now exist only for export only - first we should implement
XHTML import

From my point of view this issue is duplicate to issue 83494

Closed as duplicated - or in other words, first we should have a confirmed task
of writing an import filter and than we should find the subtasks, otherwise we
will all drown in issues.. ;-)
