Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83861
Missing umlaut after saving to Word95
Last modified: 2007-11-26 09:31:03 UTC
If I write a text in German and use Umlauts and "ß", then at the moment all is ok. But if I save the file and reopen it I am surprised about the change of the Umlauts and "ß". PS: I am not sure if the description has to be in English? I would like to do it in German. How can I send you the mentioned file in error?

Wrong component.
Can not confirm with OOo 2.3.1RC1 WinXP. @Harald: Does this also happen if you save to *.ODT ?
How to reproduce: [see also attachment] [e.g. OOo 2.3.1 [680m9(Build:9238)] / WinXP] save as 'MS Word 95 (.doc)' open *.doc in Writer - there's no change add a word save again (same format) open in Writer - ÄÖÜ and ß are changed open in e.g. WordViewer2003 - ÄÖÜ and ß are *not* changed How to avoid: save as 'MS Word 97/200/XP (.doc)'

Thank you! The saving as "MS Word 97/2000/XP" solves the problem with the umlauts etc., but only for the moment. If I save the textfile in "MS Word 97/2000/XP"-format I cannot stay compatible to MS-Word95 and MS-Word 6.0. Btw an analogue problem (in my opinion) happens if I include in my *.doc-file (in MS-Word95 and MS-Word 6.0-format) a JPG file. After saving the file as a MS-Word95-doc-file or MS-Word 6.0-file I cannot see the picture but only a free field. Maybe this info could help to solve and fix the problem.
Same problem as issue 61927. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 61927 ***
