Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 85591
Euro Sign not shown with various font
Last modified: 2008-02-13 16:59:12 UTC
Hi, When I choose Officina Sans ITC TT as font, the Euro sign is not shown in the document, nor in the print preview. This works OK in 2.3.1 I'll attach a document with screenprints.
Created attachment 51157 [details] document with text incl. € sign and screenprints from 2.4-dev and 2.3.1
Confirmed as regression with 2.3.0 v most recent 2.4 (Pavel's build) with fonts: Perpetua Tiling MT Beanie Another typewriter Bodoni MT Black and some other Bodoni fonts Broadway Copperplate Gothic Bold Blue Highway D type Brittanic Bold Franklin Gothic Heavy and some other Franklin fonts Gill Sans all fonts Goudy Stout Rockwell all fonts Tw Cen all fonts These fonts (on XP) are not all present on the PC with 2.3.0, but the € symbol is displayed whether or not that PC has the font present. Probably the fonts are at fault - haven't confirmed that - however there is a definite visual regression to 2.4.
Cannot confirm. Bodoni MT Black, Broadway, Copperplate Gothic Bold, Gill Sans, and Rockwell have the correct Euro sign, havn't got the other fonts. Do you see the Euro sign at U+20AC in the special character dialog?
@regina No, there is no Euro sign at U+20AC for any of these fonts. Please ignore Brittanic Bold, my mistake, but have just reconfirmed all the others. On 2.3.0 the Euro sign is not in the Special Symbol list either, but the symbol still shows and prints, so something must be creating a best substitute. Will include some screen shots...

I confirm the regression in OOH680_m4 on Kubuntu : I tried to type euro sign with a font "randomly" chosen. It was "Domestic Manners" that does not contain Euro sign. Euro sign is showed in 2.3.1 but not in OOH680_m4.
For some other font (Deluxe Duck) that does not contain Euro sign OOH680_m4 shows Euro sign but different from 2.3.1
Changed summary - was: "Euro Sign not shown with special font"
I've tested a text with some mathematical characters in OOH680m4. There are only placeholder rectangles, if the font do not contain them. They are shown in OOo2.3.1 via glyph fallback. So glyph fallback is not broken only for Euro sign but in general.
thanks for the (for me new) explanation of the meganism, Regina. Set priority to P2
cd->hdu: Please take over. Glyph fallback is your special area.
Accepting. Is this really on WinXP? Even on W2K "Franklin Gothic Heavy" had the Euro symbol.
Fixed in CWS gfb4win. @jbfaure: the *ubuntu case is something different: OOo was recently changed to use fontconfigs suggestions for glyph fallback fonts. If there are problems with that please open a separate issue.
@sba: please verify in CWS gfb4win
Verified in CWS gfb4win.
