Description manu007 2008-02-08 15:11:20 UTC
The issue I describe seems to me different than the two old closed issues 22001
and 14784 but they gave me some Workaround.

I want to manage my wage, or my disposable income, and comparing it over the
years using a histogram. My data come from BASE, and they do not begin until
August 2007.

In this configuration, Y-axis is the money, X-axis the month and there is a
stick for each year.

At the moment, the x-Axis, which I can't modify is like that:
1 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12

What I want should be like that:
1 - Blank - Blank - Blank - Blank - Blank - Blank - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12

That is not possible with the type of chart I use but I was successful x-y Chart
Type. So my request is, would it be possible to add a histogram representation
to the x-y Chart Type?

Histogram charts are already requested with issue 49971.

I am sorry, I didn't see the previous issue.
Though I would like to make a precision which is not on my initial query and
issue number 49771.
To handle alphanumeric and month written as text (January before February...)
would be an awesome enhancement.

Not sure whether I get you right. You can use the number format to manipulate
the text that will be displayed for a date. Or maybe you are missing a
comfortable date-time scaling? That is requested already with issue 25706.

Ok, maybe a sample of what I imagine would be simplier.

Base: a table with 2 column and 3 row (first column are month with the string
format, not alphanumeric)

Month | Sales
January | 500€
September | 1500€

I wish a histogram like that

| --- 1500
| | |
| | |
| | |
| | |
| --- 500 | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |

The program will not guess that some strings may have the meaning of month and
may should be interpreted as such. So there are two options:
1) Stay with pure text. Than all month that should be displayed on the axis in
equidistant steps need to be written down as text in the spreadsheet data.
2) Use numbers to indicate the month. Because of issue 25706 the best solution
at the moment would be to use numbers 1 to 12 for the different month.
See the attached document for both options.
