Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 86388
Entry of line break in input line
Last modified: 2013-11-16 15:14:10 UTC
It is presently necessary to edit "in cell" if one wishes to enter a line break in data, for example in multi-line address data. It would save hours of instructor and user time if line breaks could be entered in the input line as well.
see Issue 13870
reassigning features and enhancements to user requirements@openoffice.org which will be the default owner for those tasks (was introduced some time ago)
It is possible to enter manual break at input line. AOO410m1(Build:9750) - Rev. 1537113 Rev.1537113 Win 7
Edwin: How do you do it?
Click on cell, Click on input line, Insert - Manual Break - Row Break.
No for me, when the cursor is in the input line and I'm going to enter something there, then Insert > Row Break is disabled. I use AOO410m1(Build:9750) - Rev. 1537454 on Windows 7. Insert > Row Break is not for a line break inside a cell, but for a page break. Do speak about the same feature? This issue is about writing a multi-line cell content.

Your video shoes a different feature. Double click a cell. The cursor should be inside the cell. Write the word "Dog", press Strg+Enter, write the word "Cat", press enter. Notice, that you have two lines in the cell. It is not possible to enter the needed line break, when you use the input line.
Thank you Regina. The input line should transform into input box, maybe in sidebar?
