Description udippel 2002-10-25 05:06:21 UTC
Hope to be clear: I hide cells on the right edge of sheet1 from being printed
(students' names). (Format->Cells->Cell Protection->Hide When Printing). It
*does* hide the contents, but only the contents on *that* sheet. Any overflow
(names longer than sheet1/that cell) will however been inevitably printed, even
if I hide the subsequent cells from printing as well.
It is a bug, a minor one, though. Imagine a name like "Sha'azim Ibhaidullah
Dadameah Bin Shah Adyll Dadameah". "Sha'azim Ibhaidullah Dadam" fits into the
cell width and is hidden as requested. But inevitably (?) "eah Bin Shah Adyll
Dadameah" will be the sole contents on the second page during print.

Uwe, thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Please attach a document that reproduces this problem.

Okay, reduced the whole document to a meager 3-liner.
Check the Preview: 'Name' should be empty on page 1, but shows up on
page 2. Should the tag 'Hide' not apply to all pages ?
Any workaround ? Make the 'Name'-column wider will inevitably print
the title beyond one page. Only chance: refuse students with too long
names !

"Only chance: refuse students with too long names!" -> That put a
smile on my face. It's been a long day.

Thanks for the file.

As for a workaround, define a custom print range that excludes the
area where the text overflows. It ain't pretty, but it works ( at
least for me ).

Duplicate on Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 643.

Cells with long text strings with the "Hide when printing" option set
have the "extended" content printed.

In the attached file ( Hide_Demo.sxc ) cell O2 has the overflow text
( s been 'hidden' from printing ) printed on the second page.

Hi Uwe,

as a workaround :

Just enable line break under Format - Cells Allignment tab page.

Best regards

Frank

forgotten to reassign it.

So I do it now.

which is not less of an annoyance, because the whole, nicely for 1
single page formatted thinggie will push the last (students) onto a
lonesome second page.
Thanks, nevertheless; even though throwing off the second page sounds
easier (and completely unprofessional).

Fixed in a future 644 build. Affected source files:
sc/source/ui/inc/output.hxx 1.6,
sc/source/ui/view/output.cxx 1.15,
sc/source/ui/view/output2.cxx 1.31.
