OOo invariably fails on startup. Requires 1 to 4 relaunches to get it going.

Please provide information on how you start OpenOffice.org. 

There is a known issue with the Startup Script under Mac OS X 10.5.x. This can
be fixed by following the instructions under
http://shaunmcdonald131.blogspot.com/2008/03/ooo-possible-fix-for-command-timed-out.html

Please also try the latest 2.4.1 for X11 and fix it as described in the blog
posting or take DEV300_m24 for Aqua and see if the issues still exists.
