Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 87285
It should be possible to snap freely to a line
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:47:49 UTC
It would be nice if it would be possible to snap to lines. Example: I draw a polygon and want to snap a line to a certain point of the polygon. This feature would make working with OODraw a great deal easier. (sorry for my bad English)
Set to new and change the target.
There is a very old internal bug #82957 too therefore I send this to you. Please have a look.
AW: It's all in there :-) You need to activate 'Snap to object points' in the Options toolbar (view/toolbars/Options).
AW: Closing
If you activate snap to object points you can snap to the startpoint and the endpoint of the line but I want to snap somewhere at the line (e.g. in the middle)
AW: Maybe i misunderstood the issue. You can now snap to each edge point of a polygon, for a line this means start and end point. If You want to snap freely on the line itself, You get in trouble since there are no explicit 'points' on the edge itself. You get a somewhat 'sliding' snap mode. If this is what is intended, please rename the enchancement to something clearly expressing this. I understood the original description ('...to a certain point of the polygon') as the existing snap. I would not recommend such a feature. It is much better to use the now available things: Go to point mode. insert a point in the line where You want the connection, and snap to that intentionally created point then. This makes the wanted solution clearly defined.
It should be possible to snap everywhere at a line not only at the start or the endpoint.
AW: Keeping this as reminder. As said above, i would not recommend it, but use the above described possibilities.
