Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 87823
Automatic save should allow the user to continue editing its document
Last modified: 2014-02-27 09:03:20 UTC
Currently, when a document is automatically saved by OOo while the user works on it, it may take a lot of time (the bigger the document, the more time it takes) during which the user can't do anything. This should be improved in order for the user not to lase time waiting for the autosave to be completed. Maybe, an approach would be to save the document, but still allow the user to edit that document. This is what most recent applications do to make the application semms more reactive. Maybe in the status bar, it would be possible to display the last time the document was saved?
Is it possible to save the file unzipped when the "Autorecovery information" flag is set and only zip the file when a user close the document? This will reduce the saving process dramatically.
Auto save not affecting document edit. AOO410m1(Build:9750) - Rev. 1571426 2014-02-25_04:10:58 - Rev. 1571555 Debian
From a users point of view it affecting document editing. Edwin Sharp, how have you tested it.
1) Tools - Options... - Load/Save - General - Save - Save AutoRecovery information every 1 minutes 2) Open a document with some text and images 3) Type continously for a few minutes -> keyboard input flow was not interrupted by auto save.
I have a complex spreadsheet with a connection to a database. Within the spreadsheet I have a a pull-down menu to select the data by month. Each time I select a different value the spreadsheet connect to the database and retrieves the data for the given month. When you do this frequently during the 15 minutes between the auto save times the time to save increases. I confirm that that time has reduced significantly in the latest version, so the problem is not as bad as when the bug/rfe was reported.
