Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 88355
Save/export to OOXML (aka Office Open XML, Microsoft Office 12)
Last modified: 2020-01-05 15:53:31 UTC
Issue 60586 seems only concerned with importing OOXML. While exporting to OOXML may add little compatibility with Microsoft Office 2007 (because we already support the 97/2000/XP binary formats), the largest benefit may be future interoperability with third-party software that requires the new OOXML formats. All new applications will probably choose between ODF and OOXML, and to be realistic, some will choose only OOXML just like the past they only chose the 97/2000/XP formats.
TM->requirements: please have a look.

In the view of latest developments such as de facto recognition by Microsoft of OOXML failure as an international standard (http://osnews.com/story/19893/Microsoft:_ODF_Has_Clearly_Won), appeals against OOXML (http://www.iso.org/iso/pressrelease.htm?refid=Ref1136), and some reports about incompatibility of even MSO 2007 with OOXML (such as http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20080421091129596), implying that OOXML is _not_ exactly same as MSO 2007 formats, should not this issue be split into two: a) save to OOXML, and b) save to MSO 2007 ? As compatibility with MSO 2007 may become a real issue in the nearest future.
@esperantisto: it's not sure if the O(O)XML will ever be implemented and if so, how. Therefor current target is MsO2007 file format. So your a. is not relevant atm, imo.
I'm not so sure about OOXML, as ISO urged to withdraw protests against it. But anyway, I fully agree that compatibility with MSO 2007 is more important. So, I still believe, this issue should be split. Or closed with opening a new issue relating to MSO 2007.

Being able to save in .docx is quite important to many users of OpenOffice as they need to submit documents to third parties that are ( still ;-) ) using MS Office and for various reasons can or do not want to use .doc.

Created attachment 83586 [details] I need to save this document as .docx This document is saved as .doc but it needs to be saved as .docx or else it will not be accepted. Please help me solve this issue.
Development of a new OOXML framework has started, focusing for the moment on rewriting the import and, eventually, adding export capabilities too. See https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/OOXML and bug 125035 for more information, as well as the dev list archives: http://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html
the company I am applying for only accepts resumes in docx, I will be uninstalling and will reinstall when support is available
