Description norbert2 2008-04-16 21:18:17 UTC
DEV300_m7:

The context menu of the new notes feature misses the item "Default Formatting".

Since formattings are listed in the context menu, I think that "Default
Formatting" should be available, too. Like in the standard writer context menu.

@norbert2: we removed this to make the context menu easier to use, the menu item
you refer to is still available from Format menu

@christophnoack: what do you think, should this be readded to the menu? Please
discuss within UX
Comment 3 norbert2 2008-04-16 22:14:42 UTC
@mod:

The buttons bold, italic, ... are much easier to reach via the toolbat than the
"Default Formatting" via the menu.

In my oppinion either the formatting buttons + the Default Formatting should be
in context menu or none of them.

Reassigned to ES.

@christophnoack: Please decide what we should have. I have no opinio about
this, for I am using Ctrl+Shift+Space and other shortcuts anyway... :)
Comment 7 christoph 2008-04-17 22:01:24 UTC
@norbert2: Considering consistency across menus, you're right. Here, we assume
that the notes will be used a bit different from document text. (Btw: Thanks for
the report and the graphic - very nice!)

@all: The menu item is not available for two reasons:
1. Clutter free layout (as already mentioned) --> very few standard formatting
options for notes, deactivation using same option again
2. There is no "default formatting" (yet) which can be accessed and/or changed
by users (e.g. character style) --> menu item refers to different behavior in
comparison with document text (but: we still provide the format menu entry and
shortcuts)

I will discuss this issue with CJ again, but this may need some time. I think
the notes work very well (in terms of context menu) so we can ship in any case.

Hi! I discussed this issue with CJ and we decided that it is more a RFE. We
should wait for some further feedback on the Notes. (again: we removed some of
the more special formatting from the context menu along with the "default
formatting".)
Comment 9 norbert2 2008-05-07 18:38:22 UTC
There are more formattings within notes available as I knew when filing the
issue. For example paragraph settings are avaialble.

I don't think that within notes the formattings bold, italic, underline and
strikle trough are more often needed as within the document text. I guess the
opposite is real.

This makes the bold, italic, underline and strikle trough items absolutely
missplaced in the context menu in my opinion.

But when copying from somewhere into notes the user could have to remove
unwanted formattings. So the "Default Formatting" is needed.

So I - a user ;-) - come to the conclusion that these formattings items should
be removed from context menu (because they are only a few of much possible
formattings and not as often used as within the doument text) while "Default
Formatting" should be added (since is is more often needed and would be
consistent with the standard context).
Comment 10 max.odendahl 2008-05-07 19:25:20 UTC
In my opinion, we should add it back again, but I think UX came to a different
conclusion. Maybe they reconsider it based on user feedback, I guess this should
be top priority(if if makes sense)

@norbert2: Format - Default Formatting as well as Ctrl-Shift-Space is of course
available
Comment 11 max.odendahl 2008-05-07 20:01:20 UTC
pretty sure we won't remove formatting items, as it should still behave like
normal text. We removed some items as UX wanted to clean up the context menues

If you still want to remove all, create a new issue, but I doubt it will be
implemented

I guess all said, lets wait for UX comments to proceed

mod->christophnoack: can you decide what to do here? If it should stay like
this, please close as Resolved - WontFix
Comment 13 christoph 2009-03-29 17:02:03 UTC
We will keep the current behavior, as it was initially decided to focus on
really essential functionality for the notes.
