Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 88824
typing a space does not move the cursor to right at the right edge of page
Last modified: 2010-03-11 21:56:54 UTC
Using version 2.3.0-614.fc8 At the right edge of page the cursor does not move to the right (i.e. to the beginning of next line) when spaces are typed. Only when a character other than space is typed cursor moves to the right place depending on how many spaces you typed. Thanks.
Reassigned to sba.
same also on OO 3beta on OS X 10.14. in Forum oo writer messages reporting same conduct.

I reprodused this issue on PC (Windows XP)for OOO310m9. At the right edge of page the cursor MOVES to the right when spaces are typed, but DOESN'T move to the beginning of next line).
I can confirm that in the case when the line is ended with the space, it's impossible to get to the next line unless to type another character. 1. Open new Writer document 2. Type almost whole line, insert characters in the middle of it to move the last word to the page edge position; click end to move to the end of the line 3. Type space - cursor is at the same position 4. Type 5 more spaces - cursor is at the same position 5. Type another character - cursor moves to the next line beginning 6. Move cursor in the any part of the first line and type any character - all typed spaces appear If you type the space several times, and then type another word on the next line, insert several characters in the first line - you see all the spaces you typed on the page edge.
For me it is an expected behaviour my nomal configuration is in version 3.2 "Tools -> Autocorrection-Options -> Options -> Delete spaces...."
It works as designed, will not be changed, for better visibility of the spaces see issue 20878 and issue 88191 flagging duplicate. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 20878 ***
closing duplicate. To create a new line enter a paragraph break (<enter>) or a linebreak (<shift>+<enter>) or when using multiple columns a column break (Insert|Manual break..) Closing works as designed and desired, although usability wrt spaces at end of lines could be better (see the other issues)
